PARENTAL CARE SERIES - UNDER PRESSURE S21E01

TOPIC: PARENTING UNDER PRESSURE

KEY BIBLE VERSE: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

 Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 ESV

 The Exhausted Parent

From infancy to adolescence, parenting is intense and consuming. Whether coping with teenage drama or sleepless nights, or driving our kids all around town, we are often exhausted by the time our heads hit the pillow.

The next day, we do it all again. Why? Because we love our kids and want to give them the best.

But how do we define “the best”?

Our culture tells us that we need to provide our kids with a good neighborhood, enriching extracurricular activities, and every possible opportunity. It dictates what schools we should send them to, how we should discipline them, and how to ensure that they grow up to be successful.

Yet the pressure to provide the “best” often leaves us so exhausted that our children end up getting the worst versions of ourselves—short-fused and grumpy. We feel trapped by the load, unable to break free.

In Jesus’ day, a yoke was fitted around the neck of an ox as it worked the field. Many parents today can identify with that image. They are walking around dragging heavy weights attempting to plow the ground in hopes of growing their children the right way.

While parenting will always have its challenges, many of the burdens that we carry are unnecessary. Jesus says that if we’re tired, we should trade in our burdens for His. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. When it comes to parenting, that is a relief. We don’t have to carry the burden alone. We just need to take the time to learn from Jesus. His ways are true and everlasting.

When we let Him define “the best,” we learn that many of the things that we are striving for are not as important as we once thought.

As you go through the next six devotions, ask God to help you learn to parent according to the truth of Scripture rather than the standards of society. Pray that your children come to know Jesus’ love for them, and that you find rest for your soul.

For more on finding rest read, “Give Yourself a Time-Out” on.

PLS STAY TUNED FOR CONTINUATION TOMORROW BY GOD'S GRACE!

REMEMBER, WE LOVE YOU BUT GOD LOVES YOU MORE, STAY BLESSED, FOCUSED AND BE DETERMINED TO PARENT GOD'S WAY!

Marriage Series 7: What Does The Bible Say About Divorce and Remarriage?

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE? First of all, no matter what view one takes on the issue of divorce, it is important to remember Malachi 2:16, “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.” According to the Bible, marriage is a lifetime commitment. “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19:6). God realizes, though, that, since marriages involve two sinful human beings, divorces are going to occur. In the Old Testament, He laid down some laws in order to protect the rights of divorcées, especially women ( Deuteronomy 24:1–4).  Jesus pointed out that these laws were given because of the hardness of people’s hearts, not because such laws were God’s desire (Matthew 19:8). The controversy over whether divorce and remarriage is allowed according to the Bible revolves primarily around Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:32 and 19:9 . The phrase “ except for marital unfaithfulness” is the only thing in Script...

Life Matters Nuggets

WHO ARE YOU? A lady committed a crime and she was sent to court. The punishment for the crime was life imprisonment. She shed tears for help but to no avail. When the case was called in court she started weeping. Her husband, family and friends who accompanied her started weeping but there was no hope. But something happened. Before the lady could stand in the witness box a man stood up and the court room was silent. Everyone looked at Him. He was noble and gentle. He stood in the witness box and interceded on behalf of the woman. The case was difficult, yet He used all His strength, energy and resources to fight on behalf of the woman. After a long legal battle between the man and the accusers, the lady was set free. The lady fell before the man and asked *'WHO ARE YOU'*  The next day the lady deliberately committed another crime and was sent to the same court.  As soon as she entered the courtroom, she saw the man who interceded for her the previous day on the judgement seat...
